What is DNS?
DNS or Domain Name System is a system that points a domain name to a physical IP address. For example, when a user types in www.example.com in their browser and hits enter, the DNS servers resolve it to the IP address where the website is hosted.
Since your website is hosted with MGSites you will need to update DNS with the domain registration provider where you purchased your domain.
Once your website is built, you will receive an email with the IP address information. If you have not received this email, please contact support@mgsites.net and request the IP address information. Don’t forget to include your Enrollment ID.
Since there are hundreds of domain registration providers we are unable to provide a complete walkthrough for this process. However, below are the steps for a few of the well-known companies where domains can be purchased.
If your registrar is not listed below please complete the following:
- Log into your account with the domain registration provider
- Once logged in there should be a ‘Domain Management’ or ‘Domain Administration’ section which lists all active domains on your account
- Choose the domain name you want to update and follow the instructions provided by the registrar to add the new DNS record
- When in doubt, the provider should offer customer support which for assistance.
